Project Announcement from the Project Director
Dear K-12 Teachers,
It is my pleasure to announce the launching of the Texas A&M University-Commerce We Teach_CS Collaborative. With computers – and their associated software, becoming the new American Pie (everyone seems to use and like them), the need to incorporate “Computational Thinking” into some of your classroom lessons, whether you are a Computer Science Teacher or not, is vital. If the thought of learning and incorporating some aspects of computer/programming into your lesson plans ever crossed your mind, or you just want to refresh your knowledgebase by learning new and interesting computational topics, this professional development is for you. Even if you have no prior programming experience or knowledge, don’t worry since all you will need to bring with you is the desire to learn something new because we have plans for every interest level. The project is aimed at training and professionally developing local K-12 Computer Science teachers (and those wanting to be) in the Richardson (region 10) region, where the need for CS teachers and, thus, future CS graduates, is great. This is a rare opportunity that I am very excited about, and hope you are, too. As incentive for participants, we provide the following (some for selected individuals):
- Personal Stipends
- Tuition for an approved Computer Programming & development Course
- IPads or equivalent handheld device
- Substitute pay for missed classes paid to your school
- Software installation on your computers
- Travel/accommodation reimbursement
- Offsite training tuition
Training, workshops, and general facilitation will be conducted by the following field experts from Texas A&M University-Commerce, local schools, and community partners.
